It’s tiring carrying those burdens on your shoulders,
The weight of it just holding you down.
Your heart, unable to beat like it used to.
Your mind, confused and weary.
Your eyes, unable to see the light,
For the pain and the darkness seem to own it.
Your hands tied by invisible chains,
Keeping you hostage and in bondage.
The tears that fall from hurt and disappointment.
Your ears, no longer hearing words of love and happiness.
Your feet, unable to move forward,
Shackles pulling you back.
Your mouth, no longer speaking positivity and clarity.
It’s time to let go of those taunting thoughts.
It’s time for rejuvenation.
It’s time for dedication and restoration,
in order for you to feel like you again, whole and free.
For you do not owe the past anything.
Isaiah 43:18:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”
So don’t let it steal your present joy.
The rollercoaster of trauma and toil ends here,
For your mind, body, and soul deserve that healing.
You do not owe the past anything.
No more neglecting yourself, it’s time to refine,
Those skills, those talents,
And that God-given purpose within you.
No more going in cycles, it’s time to show up and show out,
For the person in the mirror is the new you.
You do not owe the past anything.
As you inhale and take that step forward,
Believe in yourself and in your dreams.
As you exhale and those layers come off,
Accept that freedom is yours.
You do not owe the past anything.
