Prayers for Children going Back to School

Kids at School

I can’t believe how quickly the days are flying by. One minute, we’re trying to have plans and structure in place for the six-week holiday, and now our children are back at school!

I look at my son, my niece and my nephew, and I’m in so much awe of how quickly they’re growing before my eyes. From their mentality to their personalities, their little characters continue to shine through in such beautiful ways.

As parents, there are so many things we hope and pray for our children as they grow. We want them to be happy, safe and confident. We want them to make good friendships, have kind teachers, enjoy learning and have the courage to overcome the challenges that may come their way.

But above all, we want our children to know that they are never walking through life alone. Even when we can’t be beside them in every classroom, playground or school corridor, we can pray for them and place them into God’s loving hands. Prayer is one of the ways we can cover our children with love, faith and hope as they begin another school year.

I pray God keeps all those I love, and all our children, in perfect peace.

Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

When writing this blog, I spoke to my son and asked him two simple questions:

“What would you like Mummy to pray for as you go back to school?”

“What do you think other children would like us to pray for?”

The following prayers are inspired by the answers my son gave me. I hope they uplift every child returning to school and remind every parent that there is power in bringing our children before God.

A Prayer for Children Returning to School

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the lives of our children and for covering them throughout the holidays.

As they return to school, Lord, I pray they dwell in Your presence always. May they seek Your love, grace, mercy and understanding before anything that may distract them from the purpose You have placed within them.

Heavenly Father, we know this world is not always kind, but we place our children into Your hands. Protect their hearts, minds and spirits. Surround them with good friends, caring teachers and positive influences.

Give every child confidence to be themselves, courage to overcome challenges and wisdom to make good choices.

When they feel nervous, give them peace and when they feel lonely, remind them that they are never alone. When they struggle, give them perseverance. And when they succeed, teach them to remain humble and grateful.

May our children laugh, learn, grow and flourish throughout this new school year. Most importantly, may they always know how deeply they are loved — by us, and by You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. xx
