They say music is good for the soul, and singing is even better. I truly feel that. While I’ve never been the best singer and sometimes shy away from singing, I’m working on it!
Regardless of how our voices sound, I believe we should all sing our hearts out to the songs that make us happy. God knows our hearts, and He doesn’t mind our vocal abilities!
For me, Gospel music is what lifts me up. As the traditional genre of Christian music, Gospel varies with culture and can come in many forms like soul, rhythm and blues, and country.
Gospel has a unique way of helping us connect with the Holy Spirit within us. It often brings me to tears—tears of release and peace. It’s such a powerful way to connect with God, and praising and worshipping Him through Gospel is a wonderful way to say, "Thank you, God, for loving me and accepting me as I am."
Here’s a list of some of my favorite artists and songs. I hope you take a moment to listen and enjoy!
I recently came across Rae Rae, when she done her collaboration with CalledOut Music. Rae Rae, whose name is Rachael Adebiyi, is UK female gospel artist. Listening to Rae Rae, well..her voice is so soft and soothing! She is a beautiful vessel, honouring God for all he has done and doing in her life. I was so shocked when she responded back to my Instagram story! I was so excited and so honoured that she took time to respond to me. A humble and modest person, I hope to meet one day.
Have a listen to Holy Spirit on Spotify This song is constantly on replay, it constantly reminds me how the Holy Spirit is such a beautiful and powerful gift to have within us. When I listen to this song, it fills me with a sense of peace and gratitude for life, for God and for Jesus. The power of their grace and mercy is undeniable and through the Holy Spirit, will our hearts always be open to Jesus Christ. Also have a listen to Lay it all down and Cover me two more amazing songs, which reminds me, that as long as I have God, everything will be okay.
Tasha Cobbs Leonard, look at this smile!
This smile alone, radiates the beautiful woman of God that she is, inside out. Tasha, is an American Gospel musician and songwriter, born and raised in Georgia. Her breakout album, Grace, was released in 2013, with such a mighty and powerful song Break Every Chain (originally written and performed by Will Reagan) However, Tasha’s interpretation of this song, is where she caught my hears. Her voice along with her heart, goes above and beyond, to glorify the goodness of God. Her music is boundless, she spreads her passion and writing abilities across Gospel, Country and Pop.
When I listen to Break Every Chain; it reminds me, that there is nothing too big, which God can not do or remove in my life, that requires me to elevate under his wings. It allows me to dig deep into every situation and circumstance that I am going through and reminds me to have faith, that God will break every chain, that is preventing me to move forward. We all go through tough times, when we feel disheartened and stuck in where we are, but with the grace and mercy of God; those things that are not meant for us and the things that are causing an hindrance in our progression, will breakaway.
Why not take a listen on Spotify along with a few other favourites, For your Glory and Smile and let me know what you think!
Mrs Tamela Mann!
This lady right here, has a heart of Gold. Tamela Mann, born in Texas, June 1966, which I have just come to realize that she shares the same birthday as my mum, wow! How amazing is that! She started off singing in the choir of her local church, before her musical career blossomed.
Tamela, is not just an American Gospel artist and songwriter, but, she's also an actress, who has featured in many Tyler Perry movies. Tamela Mann plays Madea's daughter as Cora. If you don't know Tamela Mann's husband in real life (David Mann) also acts alongside her.
If you haven't watched Madea's Big Happy Family, Madea's Homecoming or Madea's Christmas (the play), I suggest you go check them out, to witness the pure talent for yourselves.
Tamela's voice is so so powerful, so pure and elegant, that every word and every note, brings out this wave of emotion. Emotions of gratitude, for her purpose in life, because God has truly blessed her, with such an amazing and undeniable gift. Emotions of reflection, of peace and healing; because her songs really touches my heart, my mind and spirit. Her music, allows me to think about who I want to be for God, where I am for God and where I'd be without him.
These are a few songs I love; Take me to the King, God provides and Rain.

CalledOut Music, definitely calls out! I first heard of CalledOut Music; whose name is Samuel Nwachukwu, when I came across his page on Instagram. The song he sang is called My Prayer and wow this is such an amazing song! It really touched my heart, because it’s such a personal and heartfelt prayer, shared through worshipping. When I heard the song, it made me realise even more how powerful prayer, no matter what form it is in. Prayer is a way to communicate with God. To express the things we are unable to share with others, it’s a time to get closer to him and thank him for all he has done, doing and yet to do, because, sometimes all God wants, is for us to seek him and him only in the darkest of our days. You know sometimes we do not realise how prayer can help us, but just these lyrics in the song, will reflect that;
I tried to fight it but it’s clear I need You to survive. So many times I tried, with my own devices. But You told me everything I need You have provided..
This is verse is powerful because, it shows how great God’s Grace, Mercy and Unconditional Love is in our lives and that when we’re at the lowest of the lowest, those are sufficient to pull us up and through.
I just can not believe how long CalledOut Music has been about, and I have only just come across him! He is a singer songwriter, a music producer and multi-instrumentalist. His musical abilities, just keeps on getting better with each song (lyrically and visually). From his debut single ‘Working on Me’ to two successful albums, he just keeps rising and becoming UK’s most sought artist, he must be so proud!
If you want to check him out, worship along with him, then definitely check out these songs; I am free, Warm Embrace and Say So. Comment below, which song pulls at your heart strings xx
Victory belongs to Jesus! Victor Thompson, first opened my ears, when I saw his video on Instagram, singing Dependable God this really touched my heart and put tears in eyes! The lyrics, the softness of his voice and the emotions put into this song, made it really powerful. When I listen to Dependable God, it really feels me with so much awe, to know we have a God; so loving, so merciful, so faithful and so forgiving. When I reflect back on certain situations in my life, thinking about the pain or the sadness, the happiness and the love, the following lyrics in this song, really sums it up; Dependable, dependable God, it doesn't matter what comes my way you are still God. Intentional, intentional God, everything is working out for my good.
This song was released in 2021, from the album Dependable God, which has some amazing hits such as Spontaneous Endless Worship and Not Moved. Victor is not just a singer, he is also a songwriter and music director. His passion for God and for music, can never be denied, it truly goes above and beyond and what is beautiful and wonderful, is the way transitions from English to Yoruba, which such little effort!. Every word and every note, sends this beautiful shiver down my spine. It touches my spirit and it allows me to worship God on a next level, that I never knew I could experience.
If you are going through something right now, that you need clarity on and you need to find that peace in the midst of the storm, take some time out and listen to his music on Spotify.
