MISSED CALL
I still remember that night, when I missed your call, bubba woke up for his night feed,
It was the right timing, because I saw the blue light flashing on my screen.
I looked at it, and saw a number I didn't recognize,
But when it's that time in the morning, it was only wise to call back.
It was you, my sweet Aunty.
You sounded so brave, so strengthened and at peace,
You requested some clothing and for me to do phonecalls to the family.
I managed to get through to those you instructed me to,
But what I should have done, was made my to you.
I didn't make it out the door, I stayed at home,
Now the thought of you, going through what you did alone.
It hurts me, I feel like I've let you down,
I know you'll tell me it's okay, but it's hard when you're not around.
Then we got the call, saying come to the hospital,
Because, the surgery wasn't successful.
The emotions I felt, because you've been battling with your health for so long,
And the time it took for them to deal with it, and now you're gone.
We came and said our good-byes,
As I left the building, I saw two magpies.
One for sorrow, two for joy,
It made me smile, because I knew you were on your way to a good place and that you could rejoice.
To be free; free like a bird in the sky,
Where I know you're going to reunite.
With Granny and Grandad and all the loved ones,
Just remember us, when you're up there having fun.
Your love, was one of the greatest,
Your company, was one of the best.
Your strength, was like no other,
You stood your ground and battled the trials.
Your support and encouragement, were second to none,
The life and soul of the parties, always having fun.
Who you were, truly amazing and beautiful,
You took life and lived it, to the fullest.
You will never be forgotten, for your spirit is living on,
In every memory, in every beating heart and every song.
Love and Miss you always,
My dearest Aunty Jane.
